Training for our Danube River Bike Tour

Colorado River, Austin, TX. March 6, 2016

I have been lured into biking riding. I agreed to ride along the Danube knowing that our destination is Vienna. Of all the reasons to visit Vienna, my reason is selfishly sweet; to visit every pastry shop in the whole wide city!

Since I’m not a bike rider, I need to toughen up a bit. While I’m a good hiker, bike riders use different leg muscles, neck muscles and ‘bum’ muscles. I rode with Franny, our first significant bike ride together, along the Colorado River through Austin. The 10-ride took us past an annual kiteflying event at Zilker Park, a 8-oar boat racing event, and lots of walkers, runners and other bikers.  As an interlude, we brunched on crepes and eggs with pancetta and French fries at an outdoor restaurant on bustling Rainey Street.

After the ride, I felt great and gave myself a smiling face knowing now that I could enjoy a week of biking on the Danube. Luckily by early June the days will be longer and I can take all day to ride my 35 daily miles.
